Clarity is Accelerating Change
With the increased availability and lower
costs of high resolution camera technologies
from various manufacturers and resellers,
the convergence of physical and digital
security and the adoption of cost-effective
high-capacity networks, there is a shift
to higher resolution/higher capacity video
surveillance solutions. The expected goal:
improved protection per square foot of
coverage. The unexpected result: Higher
than expected storage costs.
Barriers to Change are Falling..But
Grainy
video will become a thing of the past
with the adoption of high and very
high resolution IP based solutions.
Historically, this adoption has been
hindered by bandwidth, acquisition
and high deployment costs. The industry
has taken on these challenges and
as a result, the acquisition costs
for IP based, mega-pixel cameras and
DVR/NVR systems continue to drop along
with the cost and availability of
Gigabit Ethernet networks continue
to improve.

The
New Cost Barrier to Entry: STORAGE
Now the downside:
the increased resolution comes at
a price: rapidly growing storage requirements.
The image to the right demonstrates
that a typical CIF image size generates
about 8K where a 2.0 megapixel camera
will generate up to 300K per frame.
In fact, a single mega-pixel camera
can generate over a terabyte of data
every day. TimeSight™ video
lifecycle solutions solve these storage
costs issues.
